Remember when I quit? I do, but I don’t remember why.

Postcarding! (A Day Later Than Usual)

Yesterday was Wednesday. Usually I write postcards on Wednesday.

However, I fell asleep with visions of self-licking stamps dancing in my head before I could post about writing postcards. (Am I meta? I think I am.)

So, it’s Postcarding Thursday. Do you want a postcard today?? Of course you do! Postcard Project has yielded its first fruits!

My good friend Davicho started his own postcarding endeavor, and I was so lucky to receive a postcard from him with a picture of his adorable Springer Spaniel Charlie (Chawy!) on it. It’s taped onto the wall above my desk now, a reminder of adorable dogs and awesome Internet friends.

Also, Robert dug up some bits from a trip to Italy and used them to write me a found-object letter. Awesome, and meaningful too.

But. . . BUT. . . I don’t want to quit. My postcarding has sat on the back burner for way too long, and I’m anxious to jump back into it. So what does this mean for you? It means that, because you happen to be reading my blog right now, I appreciate it so much that I’d like to send you pretty things via post! Send your address to amandalee at amandalee dot org. The Postcard Project

So, about three months ago, I was buying blank books at Williamsburg’s Spoonbill and Sugartown. I’m an obsessive devotee of longhand, and while I have an enormous appreciation for the Rhodia and the multiple=subject grid paper Clairefontaine, Spoonbill carries my absolute favorite kind of notebook, the Apica CD15. (They sell them by the case at a discount. Whee!) While I was picking up a handful of these, I noticed a box of secondhand postcards for sale. Some had been used and postmarked, and I enjoyed reading messages written fifty or so years ago, but I found about thirty pretty unused ones and bought them, thinking I could use them for actual mailing, or maybe put them in a frame on my wall.

Fast-forward to a few weeks ago. I had just finished writing letters to some family members who don’t use the Internet, but I felt like writing more. So, I wrote a Twitter post asking for addresses from anyone who wanted a postcard. I ended up getting a handful, and sent the cards the following day. I had so much fun and the response was so positive that I decided to make Postcard Night a biweekly event. (Luckily, Spoonbill has plenty of cards for the next time I run out!)
