In improvisation, actors have a technique called “Yes, and…” It goes like this:

Whenever anyone adds something to the scene – a piece of information, a name, a fictive set piece – this is called an offer. Every time someone makes an offer, all the other actors onstage must go with it, and when they do, they use the phrase “Yes, and…” to segue into another part of the scene they’re adding. If you habitually block someone’s “Yes, and…”, then that means you’re stunting the group’s momentum, allowing the scene to move forward only under your own parameters.
