How’s your weekend, hun? Have you been relaxing? Doing important stuff? What did you get up to?
I started the weekend with a long meeting. Yes, that’s right, I stayed at work late to Take Care of Business [which in my mind is always capitalized like Getting Shit Done—you can even abbreviate them the same way and combine them. GTD and TCB, mf'er!] and then rushed home to crash for awhile before working a bit on some freelance stuff. I worked all day Saturday, met friends for sushi, and then spent the majority of my Saturday night and Sunday Getting Shit Done. It may or may not have included an entire bag of Almond Joy minibars.
Now it’s time for the Sunday Survey. I’ve been thinking about the effect my education has had on everything I’m doing now, and how nothing I’m doing now seems to have anything to do with what I studied in school, or what I thought I wanted to do. What’s more, it seems like a ton of people I know feel the same way – went to art school, but working as web developers. Studied fashion design, but currently working for a nonprofit. Wanted to be a journalist, but settling for waiting tables while he freelanced. Starting a company with an economics degree, but working days as a system admin. Majored in liberal arts, but substitute teaching…or teaching English abroad.
What I want to know is, did this happen to you too? Did you go to school? What did you study? Is it directly related to what you do now? Do you regret not doing something different?
Tell me your thoughts. Ask your friends to do the same. I’m curious.

I graduated with a degree in Art History and Minor in Philosophy; and am an odd freelance bird. I understand completely…
This weekend I relaxed, just relaxed. No gigs nothing..
