Curation! Or, Why I Learned to Tumbl.

07.31.09 | Comment?

When I started this blog, I was toeing the line of the fashion blogger norm. “I must have weekly recurring features!” I admonished myself. So every week, I had a shy shadow of the Things I Love Thursday phenomenon [though not on Thursday]. Every week I posted an inspiring quote, lists of links, and photos of things I was wearing and things that were making me think.

It was a decent routine. I liked how it made me work. It was like being in school again, preparing each Sunday for the week that lay ahead of me, going through my RSS reader to figure out what I could post this week and having my then-boyfriend shoot pictures of every outfit I wore [most of which didn't get posted, because I never wanted this to be strictly a style blog]. But there was a problem.

My actual written features were buried among things I didn’t actually create. And although this blog was documenting a great many things that stimulated my mind and got me jumping with excitement to create something meaningful, the documentation of the meaningful creations coming out of those stimuli were few and far between. In short, Amanda Lee Dot Org had long since ceased to be about my own work, and had instead become an aggregator of inspiration—not without value, but not something that I ever wanted to make.

So, I have a Tumblr now. You can follow me if you want. It’s where I’m going to post all the things I desperately want to put forth into the world, but that don’t really belong here. Thoughts, inspiration, photos, music, half-baked ideas, and content that applies only to a handful of my readers. [C'mon, you didn't think I'd really be blogging about Cincinnati all that much on here, did you? I'm doing it over there. See? Here it is.]

Tumblr, then, is my exercise in curation— it’s where I put the things that aren’t fully fleshed out or relevant enough to post here, but that I can’t just ignore or let go. I’d love it if you all followed me, or gave me some feedback.

Meanwhile, I’m going to be working hard to make this blog—which, after all, is my baby—more amazing. So I hope you stick around.
