I'm Amanda Lee [don't call me Amanda]. This is my daily celebration of the things I love best: style, organization, creativity, happiness. I'm a copy editor, writer, and general freelance hero...if you're looking for someone. I love learning, good design, urban density, public transit, dogs, and Dunkin' Donuts coffee. Someone once told me I was the most unpredictable person he'd ever met, and I enjoy living up to that every day.

Amen, sister. Amen. There's always the anthropological/sociological grounded argument that fashion is a reflection of one's sense of belonging to a tribe or a sense of one's values or just a broader reflection of society at large. OK that was way abstract. Enjoyed reading this.

Thank you thank you thank you.

It makes me so mad when people dress like crap and tell you they "don't care." Those same people go out of their way to look like they don't care. If a grungy person who though they were above-it-all was shown one piece that was flattering and one piece that was boring and unsightly, they would pick the latter even if both were the same price. "Im above it" is another way of saying "Im lazy" or "I have bad taste."

Some people say to me "why do you care so much?"
And my answer is usually something like "For the first time in human history, people don't care about how they dress. It used to be a part of life and it was a part of being a citizen. We have thrown away so much of our culture after WWII. Not caring about appearance is a newfangled, temporary phenomenon (which is waning, finally) along with many other aspects of human life (fleeing our cities, our streets not being walkable, the dehumanization of every aspect of daily life). When you destroy a natural part of human culture, you've removed a pillar of our society.
Oh and people that dress like a car wreck tend to be the most depressed assholes I've ever met."

The end.
