A really famous young New York writer blogged about this awhile back, but I wanted to reiterate it here.
Having tried to blog in a serious way for the past year, I understand firsthand that stuff gets in the way, in much the same way as it does when you’re trying to do something successfully on top of managing a full-time job (or two, like I did last year!). But eventually you’re going to lose traffic for the kinds of excuses that you make for not getting it done. For every Gala , there are dozens of bloggers who post only sporadically, or they go through a week or so of really consistent good posting before lapsing into complete inactivity for a couple of weeks. I’ve found nothing that comes close to blogging that forces me to write in a useful, meaningful way every day. Writer’s block is literally not allowed, unless you want to lose traffic for a day.
So, I wanted to thank you guys—my readers—for keeping me on my toes. You’re making me more productive than I ever imagined I could be. You guys rock.

I’ve only recently started reading this, and my blog is barely a week old, but I’m noticing this effect already myself.
