I posted yesterday about the physical objects that I would, given the opportunity, ask for as birthday presents. However, there’s a ton of intangibles that I’d love to get as well. Given my propensity for decluttering and my aversion to purchasing too many physical goods that I won’t absolutely use and love to the max, if you’re going to do anything for my birthday, you’d be much better off getting me something from this list. (Hint, hint.)

  • A party with all my friends. I don’t want it necessarily to be in celebration of my birthday (true story: I’ve left my own birthday party more than once in the past because guests insisted on singing at me when I emphatically asked them not to). But to have everyone in one place—including my friends and family back in the midwest, up in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and out on the west coast—at once would be pretty damn amazing. If it involves lots of drippy drinks, scream-singing at the tops of our lungs to hot [post-]summer jams, and tottering to the deli at four when the bars close to grab up bagels and coffee before heading up to Central Park to watch the sunrise, all the better!
  • Tutorials from friends in PHP. I’m getting shakily comfortable dealing with CSS and XHTML, but I’m forever calling people to help me deal with all manner of nonsense related to WordPress themes and such. I’d like to stop asking for help and be able to do it myself. Any takers?
  • A weekend out of town, either alone or with friends in tow. One of the things I miss most about living in Louisville and Cincinnati is the fact that because I had a car, I could easily pack a bag, tuck my dog into the passenger seat, and be off for a weekend adventure with similarly adventuresome friends. And while I’m eternally grateful for the overall generally amazing service provided by New York’s MTA, I miss having a car specifically so that I can do trips like this.
  • A chill in the weather. No one can do a damn thing about this, but I’d really love it if I could start wearing layers without sweating through them all. Just sayin’.

Thoughts? Allegations? Things you want to say?
