Psst! My birthday is coming up next month. I don’t have any plans yet, because it’s less than two weeks away from the debauchery that will undoubtedly result from Halloween. . . but I’m looking forward to celebrating in some way. I’m not expecting gifts from anyone, but if I were, the list below includes the most useful and bliss-inducing things anyone could present me with on my big day.
- Scrap wood. My friend Tyler is a construction genius, and he built his bed out of scrap wood and old orange traffic barriers. I lust after it every time I’m in his room. So, having recently made my first major power tool purchase (a drill! and a studfinder!), I’d like some scrap wood so I can be a copycat and make a bed identical to his.
- A slew of gift certificates to Zappos. Ever since I moved to New York, I’ve been really, really hard on my shoes. I’ve walked through the soles of at least seven pairs of flats and torn a pair of rubber rain boots to shreds from wearing them so much. Heels are a little easier to care for—I’m usually pretty good about replacing the heel taps (they wear down so quickly!). Still, shoes! I want them! And to go with them. . .
- Tights in rainbow colors. I own approximately seventy-nine pairs of tights in black, white, brown, and grey, but I’m lusting after rainbow-colored legs to brighten my outfits. I especially love American Apparel’s two-tone tights. (I can’t find them online anymore, so I hope that doesn’t mean that they’re sold out!) One of my favorite fashion bloggers has been wearing a slew of them, and she looks adorable.
- A gift card for my favorite vintage store, along with an IOU for a team shopping expedition. I’ve written about this place about a million times before, and I love it there. I don’t think it’s possible for me to go in there and not leave with a bag of pretty things. And I love going with friends and helping them pick out amazing things for themselves. Let’s do it!
- A large external hard drive. I’m in the process of developing a better system for managing my music, text files, and photos, and while I recently replaced the hard drive in my MacBook, it’s just not enough space. And my FireLite’s measly 60 gigs isn’t either. What I really want is this adorable thing, if it comes back into stock by next month.
- This tea set. Two sets for my house, and one set to leave at the location of the weekly tea party. If you’re feeling really cheery, surprise me with a yummy tea blend you love, too!
Thoughts? Any other Scorpios preparing for a big birthday bash? What’s the best present you’ve ever received on your birthday?
